Motor Vehicle Accidents...

Motor Vehicle Accidents obviously can do a great deal of harm to your body. Most people consider themselves fortunate if there is no blood and expect to be stiff and sore as a result of even a low-speed accident. What these people don’t realize, however, is that much more may be happening to your body than easily meets the eye. Stiffness and soreness are a reaction to injury, but they can also be your body’s defense mechanism to keep you from further injuring an already traumatized area. The neck and low back generally experience a great deal of forced movement in any auto accident, but especially those in which a vehicle is struck from the front or rear. Due to your body’s natural defense of immobilization and release of natural painkillers, evidence of injury to these areas may not show up for 2-6 weeks following an accident.

We often hear in our office, “I was fine after the accident, but a couple of weeks later, my neck really started hurting—maybe I slept wrong.” Do yourself a favor and visit a competent chiropractor following every auto accident or trauma of any kind. Any of your passengers, including small children in car seats, should also be examined in order to take care of difficulties before they mushroom into large, painful health problems.
