What exactly is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is manipulation of the joints, mainly the moveable bones in the spine. However, other joints in the body can also be manipulated back to their normal health positions. This helps reduce joint inflammation. Dr. Myshka uses her hands to perform the manual manipulation following the Gonstead Technique of chiropractic. Dr. Myshka moves wrist bones, shoulder bones, and back bones when performing the Gonstead chiropractic adjustment in Jonesboro.

Does it hurt to get an adjustment?

If the joint is out of position, swelling and discomfort may occur, but usually not. Usually after first 3-5 adjustments, there is no discomfort during the adjustment. This is why, when people get regular adjustments, it does not hurt.

How long will I need to see a chiropractor?

At Myshka Chiropractic, our aim is to straighten a spine as much as the patient’s body will allow. We do not just treat the pain; we try to resolve the root cause of pain. Spines that are out of alignment normally cause pain. To see structural changes in the spine, you can expect treatment to span 4-8 weeks, depending on your unique case.

Will you ever prescribe medication?

By state law chiropractors are not licensed to prescribe medication from a pharmacy. We do recommend CBD oil and different vitamins when needed.

Do you work on herniated discs?

Absolutely yes. Our goal is to do all we can to help you avoid surgery. We have a history of helping patients avoid back surgery even when a surgery date has been selected. Try Myshka Chiropractic before submitting to the knife. According to publication AHCPR Number 95-0644 of the Department of Health and Human Services, low back surgeries have a 99% failure rate.

After a car accident, how soon should I see a chiropractor?

Call a chiropractor as soon as you are sent home from the hospital or the emergency room. If you did not go to the hospital, call a chiropractor immediately. The chiropractic physician is skilled at knowing when and what to do to get you back to normal, all without pills.

What is chiropractic care?

A chiropractic physician specializes in the interaction of the central nervous system and the spine, and treatments are focused on improving the communication between the brain and the body.

Can I adjust myself?

No, you cannot. You are not able to send bones back to their healthy position. You can twist and pop the joints, but doing so moves the bone more out of place and increases the potential for arthritis. Even Dr. Myshka visits a chiropractor to adjust her own spine.

Why do adjustments make me pop?

The fluid that surrounds each joint contains air pockets. As you are adjusted, the joint area is stretched, releasing the air pockets. As they are released, a popping sound can be heard.

Will I need to remove my clothing during the treatments or adjustments?

Keep your clothes on during the adjustments. During the exam and x-rays, we may ask you to change into scrubs.

How do I know if I have a slipped disc?

Dr. Susan Myshka will do a thorough exam that will identify signs of a slipped disc. Our goal at Myshka Chiropractic is to prevent surgery even if you have a slipped disc or herniated disc.

Do I have a pinched nerve?

Pain running down your arm or leg is an indication of a pinched nerve. Your comprehensive exam will indicate whether or not you have signs of a pinched nerve.
